NCSS Needs Volunteers at our Sakura Matsuri tent!!

The Sakura Matsuri is the Japanese street festival that takes place immediately following the National Cherry Blossom Parade on Saturday, April 14, 2012, beginning at 12 noon. Here, you can enjoy the family-friendly atmosphere of the largest Japanese cultural festival in the United States, which features Japanese food, arts ,and culture; merchandise; martial arts demonstrations; and live performances (traditional and J-Pop) on four stages.

Each year, NCSS has a tent to promote NCSS and our activities. This year we have contracted for a tent twice the size so that state societies can promote themselves as well not to mention hosting filmmakers and Princesses!! The NCSS tent will provide space for at least 15 state societies to display information, and we hope your state society will want to be one of them.

Award Winning Filmmakers Début
The award-winning film makers/producers of the film “Pray for Japan” and the video on the Japanese cherry trees and their survival during the recent tsunami, will be at the NCSS tent to discuss the films with attendees.

Cherry Blossom Queens and Princesses
In addition, this year, the US and Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival Queens and Princesses will spend approximately two hours at the NCSS tent to greet people, hand out programs, and provide photo opportunities for the general public.

Each state society must have at least one volunteer at the tent the entire time it is open to the public. Time can be divided among several people, but someone must be present from 11:00 a.m. (to set-up before the opening at 12:00 noon) through the close of the event at 5:00 p.m. (to help close the exhibit at 5:30 p.m. or 6:00 p.m.).
11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.;
1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.;
3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (or closing).

Please note that most of the volunteer time blocks are two and a half hours. If you can stay the entire time (11:00 a.m. to closing (6:00 p.m.), please indicate this. If you or your State Society would be intersted in volunteering at the NCSS tent or if you have any questions, please contact: Jody Sweet, NCSS Sakura Matsuri Festival Committee Chair at: jody.sweet@ultra-3eti.com

Thank You.
